Wilma Rudolph caught polio when she was four years old. Doctors told her she would never be able to walk again without a brace. Yet, a few years later, through long treatment and a lot of effort, she miraculously recovered. Wilma then demonstrated an exceptional gift for running. She was a university student when she participated in the 1960 Olympics, where her great talent not only allowed her to win gold medals, but also to break world records.
