Harriet Tubman was born in the United States into a family of slaves. As an adult, she managed to escape to the north of the country, where slavery was prohibited.

She then returned to the South to help others achieve freedom.

This intelligent and courageous woman inspired several generations of African Americans in their fight for equality and human rights.
